OVERVIEW

The Australian Youth Water Polo Championships are one of Water Polo Australia’s flagship national events, uniting athletes across the 12&U, 14&U, 16&U and 18&U age groups. The 2025 edition also showcased Australia’s elite talent, featuring the Ord Minnett Aussie Sharks and Aussie Stingers in a test-match series. 

With Perth as the host city, Water Polo Australia sought a unified media and content approach that elevated the destination, strengthened the connection between grassroots and high performance, and amplified the event’s national reach.

WHAT WE WERE ENGAGED TO DELIVER

BTB was appointed to design and execute a fully integrated media and content strategy, including:

  • A comprehensive marketing and media plan with realistic, cost‑effective initiatives tailored to the event’s scale and audience.
  • End‑to‑end content strategy and production spanning high‑performance storytelling, participation‑focused content, and destination‑led narratives.
  • Management of all media partners to ensure consistent, high‑quality marketing content delivery.

The integrated strategy delivered significant uplift across visibility, engagement and event storytelling:

  • More than 3 million social media impressions generated across the event period.
  • A 500% increase in social media engagement, demonstrating strong audience resonance.
  • Perth successfully positioned as the hero destination, with content centred on the people and culture of water polo.
  • High‑performance athletes and teams actively engaging with and sharing WPA‑produced content, amplifying reach and authenticity.
